Study of a mixture of Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate


Sulfonates (R-SO 2 -O - ) are a class of anionic surfactants, consisting of a hydrophilic sulfonate head group and a hydrophobic tail group. They constitute the conjugate bases of the sulfonic acids of general formula R—SO 2 —OH.

Derived from strong acids, they are stable to hydrolysis and do not release basic ions. Along with sodium laureth sulphate, they are among the oldest and most widely used synthetic detergents and are found in many personal hygiene products (soaps, shampoos, toothpastes, etc.) and household cleaning products (laundry, washing-up liquid, spray).

Alkyl Benzene Sulfonates more generally called Alky Aryl Sulfonate are surfactants belonging to the family of anionic surfactants.
Their analysis by UPLC/TOF-MS revealed a characteristic distribution.
