Analysis of "animal glue" type adhesives

There are several types of animal glues and the main ones are bone, nerve, rabbit skin and fish glue. They all consist of a mixture of proteins, the main one being gelatin obtained by the hydrolysis of collagen.

These glues are still used in the fields of carpentry, cabinet making and violin making, but have been widely used since ancient times as a binder for paints and for treating wood and plaster.

It is possible to perform structural analyzes by Pyrolysis/GCMS to identify and distinguish them. Bone and nerve glues will not be distinguishable from one another (they are often a mixture, moreover) but can be distinguished from rabbit or fish skin glues.
