PVC CONTENT IN A BLEND PVC / ABS BY IRTF
The principle consists in measuring the band height of the C-Cl bond of the PVC, which is a function of the quantity of PVC deposited on the spectrometer. A calibration is performed with known PVC / ABS mixtures (pure PVC, pure ABS, Blend of known content, etc.) in which an FTIR spectrum of a known standard quantity is measured and the height of the stretching strip is measured. C-Cl (615 cm-1) and draw H (abs) = a. % PVC. In a second step, a deposit of a known mass of the sample with an unknown PVC content is made. The height of its band at 615 cm-1 gives the PVC content directly. This technique works with many mixtures of homopolymers or copolymers provided that at least one spectral band specific to one or to the other of the two matrices.
