IDENTIFICATION AND QUANTIFICATION OF EXTRACTIBLES IN HDPE FILM
The sample is usually milled (or freeze-dried) and then a solid / liquid extraction makes it possible to migrate the soluble organic compounds from the polymer matrix to the extract.
This extract is then analyzed by GCMS (vaporization, separation in the chromatographic column, then detection by mass spectrometry) with the obtaining of a chromatogram where each peak corresponds to an organic compound which is identified by its mass spectrum.
The area of each peak is proportional to the mass of compound in the sample, which makes it possible to determine its exact content.
