Indeed, the compatibility between materials and objects coming into contact with foodstuffs is a primary concern.
Different standards make it possible to carry out these checks:
- Overall migration (NF EN 1186) : Mass of all that migrates, without distinction as to their nature, results expressed in mg/kg of foodstuff or in mg/cm² of material.
- Specific migration (NF EN 1388-2) : Specific migration monitoring (certain targeted substances only), results expressed in mg of target molecule/kg of foodstuff or in mg of target molecule/cm² of material.
Performing analyzes according to these 2 standards allows verification of compliance with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011: (formerly regulation 2007/19/EC) in force in the context of materials and articles in contact with foodstuffs . Thus, simulations of contact with specific fluids (simulants) are carried out to allow conditioning between container and content in order to assess their chemical compatibility. Support of the following analytical techniques: HS/GC-MS, GCMS, UPLC/TOF-MS ; UPLC/MS/MS or Py/GCMS allow the research, identification and quantification of organic pollution (solvent, polymer residues, extractables, leachables, etc.), The support of elementary techniques such as ICP-OES, ICP-MS or even SEM/EDX make it possible to highlight mineral or metallic pollution (heavy metals, etc.).
