Known for its irritant effects, Formaldehyde [50-00-0] is a substance present in different environments with multiple and varied sources: building materials, furniture, detergents, etc. It is essential to quantify this Formaldehyde contained in these different types of supports for reasons of public health in particular.
Indeed, since 2004, Formaldehyde [50-00-0] has been classified by the IARC as a “proven carcinogenic substance for humans” (group 1).
A simple method consists in stabilizing this compound by derivatization with a chromophore group (2,4-DNPH, visible by UV) in order to be able to easily analyze it by UPLC / UV.
