Bumblebee disorientation problem in an outdoor greenhouse

We were contacted by a beekeeper from Provence for an unusual request for the laboratory: a problem of disorientation of bumblebees in an outdoor greenhouse.

Our expertise consisted in the study of the tarpaulin, and its compliance with the manufacturer's specifications.
Solid / liquid extraction followed by analysis of extractables by GCMS for determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) made it possible to demonstrate a large excess of Tinuvin 326 . This molecule used for its UV absorbing properties, could be in the event of too large an excess in the formulation, at the origin of the disorientation of bumblebees.
