Identification and determination of acrylamide by UPLC-MS / MS

Acrylamide [79-06-1] is a synthetic compound used in particular as a monomer for the manufacture of polyacrylamides (PAM). These high molecular weight polymers (C3H5ON) find numerous applications in industry: adjuvant, binder, flocculating agent, fixing agent, waterproofing agent, sealing agent, etc.

Polyacrylamides have found multiple applications, in particular thanks to their ability to retain up to 400 times their volume in water. They are therefore widely found in cosmetic products as a moisturizing base, hand creams and foundations or even in paramedical products such as skincare creams, make-up removers or even products formulated in the form of capsules. Also used for its flocculant properties in sanitary napkins or baby diapers, these polymers are very present in our daily life.

Control of residual monomer therefore becomes a necessity since Acrylamide is classified as a neurotoxic molecule as probably carcinogenic by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer), it is therefore important to monitor its residual content.

Acrylamide is also a compound that appears during the cooking of compounds, especially vegetable ones, above 120°C.
Called into question in the early 2000s, the high-temperature cooking of certain foods, in particular foods of vegetable origin rich in carbohydrates such as fries, crisps, coffee, pastries, bread and cereals, results in the formation of Acrylamide in relatively high and unexpected amounts.

The Polymex laboratory therefore offers you to measure Acrylamide [79-06-1] by UPLC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography coupled with Tandem Mass Spectrometry) or UPLC/TOF-MS (Liquid Chromatography coupled with a TOF detector and Mass) in all types of products, formulations or raw materials.
